Greenwood man charged with sexual battery

A Greenwood man is facing a sexual battery charge after police say he assaulted a woman in his car.

Jesse R. McConnell, 48, is charged with sexual battery, criminal confinement and interference with the reporting of a crime. Both sexual battery and criminal confinement are Level 6 felonies.

A woman reported to police that at around 10:30 p.m. April 21, she and McConnell were talking in his car in the driveway of her home when he backed out of the driveway with her still in the car and drove a few houses down the street, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday in Johnson County Circuit Court.

The woman told police McConnell then forced her to perform a sexual act on him while in the car, according to court documents. She managed to break away and attempted to exit the car, but McConnell pulled her back in by her hair. She was soon able to push him away and get out of the car, court documents said.

She ran back to her house. McConnell chased her and blocked her from entering the front door. She threatened to call the police, and McConnell took her phone, according to court documents. The woman then told him she was going to start screaming so the neighbors would hear her. McConnell let her in the house and left the scene in his car, court documents said.

Police arrested McConnell Tuesday. He was released from the Johnson County Jail on $250 bond.
