Howard H. Montgomery, 85, passed away at Crestwood Village South on May 27, 2020. He was a longtime resident of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Howard was born on March 24, 1935 in Scottsville, Kentucky to Herschell Montgomery and Mattie Jane (Anderson) Montgomery.

He married Agnes Faustine (Luster) Montgomery on March 31, 1954 in Indiana. She preceded him in passing on March 2, 2005.

He is survived by his daughters, Barb Lawson (Mel) of Greenwood, Indiana and Mary Duncan of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Carmen Montgomery; grandchildren, Israel (Carol), Kimberly (Brian), Autumn (Jay), Brandy (David), Heather, Eric (Carol), Jeff, Chad (Amanda), Tabi (Ben), and Kara; great-grandchildren, Piper, Violet, Isaac, Jacob, Hunter, Jalyn, Jordyn, Jonathan, Jessica, Anthony, Leeanne, Levi, Dustin, Nicholas, Ricky, Breanna, Bryce, Taylor, Trent, and Haliegh.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Herschell and Mattie; wife, Faustine; son, Howard Montgomery; sisters, Jonell Montgomery, Sadie Lee Berry, Betty Ann Patterson, and Cookie Hill; brothers, Vivian (Hoss) Montgomery, Paul (Fuzzy) Montgomery, and Harry Montgomery.

Howard attended Clark Pleasant Schools. He joined the United States Marine Corps. where he proudly served during the Korean War from 1954 until 1957.

He worked as a Railroad Carman for Penn Central, Conrail, New York Central, and Amtrak. He retired from Amtrak Beech Grove Shops after 33 years of dedicated service in 1996.

Howard loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains annually for relaxation, visiting the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center for live music shows, and watching TV with his companion, Zelma Gerholt. He enjoyed his monthly visits with his railroad buddies at Denny’s.

A celebration of Howard’s life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the New Salem Baptist Church, 10680 Kentucky Highway #698 Hustonville, Kentucky 40437, with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the church. An Indiana visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. will a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton Street (U.S. 31) Franklin, Indiana 46131. Burial will be at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Hustonville, Kentucky on Saturday, May 30, 2020.
