Greenwood Police Department lobby closed Friday due to COVID-19

The Greenwood Justice Center had a small COVID-19 outbreak, causing the lobby to close to the public Friday.

A group of people who work in the Greenwood Probation Office in the basement of the Greenwood Justice Center, where the police department is also located on Surina Way tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, Greenwood Police Chief John Laut said.

Everyone else who worked in that office, along with staff who work in the records department and the lobby were sent home and tested for the illness. Those individuals will remain in quarantine until the results are returned, Laut said.

Because of this, the department does not have enough staff to man the lobby to answer phones or greet visitors, so the lobby of the department will remain closed until Monday, he said.Â
