GREENWOOD
Thomas Patrick Purtell, 81, of Greenwood passed away August 25, 2020. He was born October 9, 1938 in Carbondale, Illinois to the late John Francis and Helen Marie (Yemm) Purtell.
Tom graduated from Evansville University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and then went on to proudly serve our country as a Marine from 1958 – 1961.
After his time in the service, he married his love, Rhonda Godwin and together they raised three children.
In 1972 he launched his own business, the Speedy Print printing shop and retired from there in 2003. Tom was an avid music lover, especially jazz, Cardinals baseball fan, worker of crossword puzzles and reader. His family was the center of his life. They all enjoyed annual reunions where they could get together and spend time with each other.
Tom will be fondly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Rhonda; his children, Sheila (Kimble) Richardson, Patrick (Lyn) Purtell, and Chris (Karen) Purtell; grandchildren, Zoe, Connor, Sarah, Grant, and Truman; siblings, Nancy Eckenroth, Ted Purtell, and John (Barbara) Purtell; and several dear nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Saturday, August 29 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46217, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
