Daytime closures to start on State Road 37

Drivers should watch for temporary daytime closures starting this week on State Road 37 between Franklin and Martinsville.

Interstate 69 contractors will be paving the road and strengthening the northbound shoulder to prepare for the Interstate 69 expansion between Evansville and Indianapolis, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation news release.

The closure will stretch from Martinsville up to the State Road 144 intersection near Bargersville.

Signage and orange barrels will be set up early this week. Temporary daytime lane closures are expected to begin by Wednesday.

State Road 37 northbound and southbound lane closures will begin after 9 a.m. each day and end around 4 p.m., the news release said. The northbound closures could extend for up to a mile, but the southbound lanes could be shorter distances.

The paving work is expected to continue into the fall. Police will enforce a reduced speed limit of 45 mph, according to the news release.

Starting next year, State Road 37 will be reduced to two lanes between State Road 144 and Morgan Street in Martinsville. Traffic will be shifted to one side of the highway while crews build the new I-69 lanes on the other side.
