David G. Long 80 of Franklin, IN passed away Wednesday September 16, 2020 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN. He was born November 1, 1939 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN to Sherrill Glendon Long and Marian Mildred (Hughes) Long. He married Carol M. (Berry) Long on June 26, 1988 in Franklin, IN, she survives.

He was a 1957 graduate of Danville High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran having trained at the Naval Center in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He later served on the USS Neosho as a 3rd Class Petty Officer.

He began working for Standard Grocery from 1960-1980 as traffic manager. Standard was part of the National Tea Company. He faithfully served as the facilities coordinator for Camp Allendale in Trafalgar, IN for 20 years retiring in 2010. He also had worked for several optical companies including Continental, Union and Dr. Wolff in Franklin, IN.

He was a member of Motor Truck Association and Railroad Traffic Club. He enjoyed reading, movies, music and scenic travel routes. He especially enjoyed with his son Jeff assembling aquariums and nurturing fish.

Survivors include his wife Carol M. (Berry) Long of Franklin, IN, sons Jeffrey Long (Carrie) of Owensville, KY, David J. Cannon (Dana) of Milan, TN and Michael J. Cannon (fianc? Rhonda Smith) of Franklin, IN, two grandchildren Brayden Smith and Ja’Niya Cannon, a cousin Lou Anne Wheeler of Franklin, IN, niece Marlisa Hamilton (Gregg) and family of Estero, Florida, nephew Marc Davidson (Sandy) and family of Ft. Myers, Florida and nephew Rex Davidson and Family of Ft. Myers, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donald H. Long and his wife Helen Long and Susanne M. Long Davidson and her husband Wayne Davidson.

The Reverend Larry McAdams will conduct a service on Sunday September 20, 2020 at 4 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/david-long.
