GREENWOOD

R. Bruce Reed, 72, of Greenwood, IN passed away at home and into the arms of his Savior, Jesus, on the evening of September 29, 2020. He was born October 11,1947 to Robert and Mary (Garl) Reed, in Indianapolis, IN.

Bruce was a 1966 graduate of Center Grove High School. Where he was number 56 on the varsity football team. It was in High School that he fell in love with neighbor Barbara Correll. They were married on November 5, 1966 at Smith Valley Baptist Church. At age 18 Bruce went to work for Link Belt/Rexnord where he would work for 46 years before retiring at the age of 65. Bruce served as President of United Steelworkers of America Local 1999 before moving on to and retiring as Business Rep. Bruce enjoyed driving his bride in his Corvette, and was a member of Hoosier Corvette Club and Christian Vette Club. Bruce was also a member of Smith Valley Baptist church where he faithfully served in a variety of leadership positions.

Bruce enjoyed sports, but no sport was more important than watching his grandkids play. He and Barbara traveled all over to watch grandson, Caden, play baseball. Bruce was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and in the 3 years he had remaining he was able to see Caden graduate from high school and start his college baseball career at Manchester University. He was able to see granddaughter, Kiley, graduate from Hanover College. He was also able to walk his niece Stephanie Trapman down the aisle and participate in daughter, Lori Ferguson’s, ordination service.

Bruce is survived by wife of almost 54 years, Barbara Reed and children Brian (Jenny) Reed and Lori (Keith) Ferguson and grandchildren, Kiley Reed and Caden Reed. Also surviving are siblings Kathy (Bob) Jones and Eric Reed. Bruce also had a special relationship with niece Stephanie (Steve) Trapman.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by sister Pam Memmer and brother Craig Reed.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Smith Valley Baptist Church, 4682 W. Smith Valley Road, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 2-4pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 4pm. The Rev. Lori Ferguson will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date at Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood, IN.

Due to the Covid19 Mandate, all attending must wear a mask.
