GREENWOOD, IN.

Billy R. Harris, 77, of Whiteland, IN passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born January 24, 1943 in Rocklane, Johnson County, Indiana to Earl and Hazel (Poynter) Harris. He married Janet M. (Parker) Harris on March 22, 1963 at Bengal United Methodist Church, she survives.

He was a 1962 graduate of Clark Township School. He retired in 2004 as the building trade’s instructor for the Central Nine Career Center in Greenwood, IN after 12 years. He previously had been a building trade’s instructor for the Blue River Career Center. He was a member of Rocklane Christian Church in Greenwood, IN, had served on the Johnson County Fair Board, the Needham Township Fire Protection District Board of Trustees and served on the Needham Township Volunteer Fire Department. He loved his grandkids and attending their sporting events. He was also an avid hunter.

Survivors include his wife Janet M. (Parker) Harris of Whiteland, IN; two daughters Laura Showalter (John) of Needham, IN and Stacie Bates (Jeff) of Greenwood, IN; grandchildren Cory White of Noblesville, IN, Katelyn White of Ft. Wayne, IN, Eric Bates (Andrea) of Whiteland, IN, Austin Bates of Whiteland, IN, Andrea Shaver (Schuyler) of Longwood, FL and Anthony Showalter (Caroline) of Longwood, FL; great-granddaughter Emerson Shaver; sisters Linda Taylor (Gordon) of Greenwood, IN, Susie Sciscoe (Steve) of Greenwood, IN and Janet Coffman (Larry) of Franklin, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service will be held at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center on Saturday October 10, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. Family and friends may gather immediately following the service. The Reverend Seth Amerine conducted a private family graveside service earlier this year at Second Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin, IN. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
