FRANKLIN, IN.

Donald L. Sanders 86 of Franklin, IN passed away on Sunday October 11, 2020 in Shelbyville, IN. Don was born on August 5, 1934 in Frankfort, IN to Lawrence Orville and Ruby (Rhodes) Sanders. He was a 1954 graduate of Frankfort High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Don was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 until 1957 and as a Reserve U.S. Marine until 1960.

Mr. Sanders was Vice President of Marketing with Asphalt Materials, retiring after 40 years of service in 2001, he was Co-partner of CEA Engineering and served as the Johnson County Highway Director retiring in 2006. Don also served as a District Board Trustee for the Whiteland Fire Protection from 1997 until 2009.

Mr. Sanders was an Eagle Scout, a Century Member of the Boy Scouts of America and a past Director of Wetzel Trace. He was a 32 Degree Master Mason and a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #107, the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine in Indianapolis, Franklin American Legion Post 205 where he was a member of the Military Honor Guard, the Franklin Elks Lodge 1818, Shelbyville Elks Lodge, the Sertoma Club of Greenwood, I U Alumni Association of Franklin and Shelbyville, Legends Golf Club, Community Congregational Church and Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin.

Survivors include his wife Pamela (Henry) Sanders of Franklin, IN, daughters Anne Thurston (Roger) of Shelbyville, IN and Linda Sanders (Jeff Wagoner) of Shelbyville, IN, a son D.L. Sanders (Melissa) of Shelbyville, IN, step children Kurt Stucker (Tammy) of Franklin, IN and Alisa Angelsky of Fishers, IN, brother Jack Sanders (Jo) of Austin, TX, seven grandchildren Reba Kennard (Troy), Will Thurston (Megan), Aaron Sanders, Kyle Stucker, Kevin Stucker, Nikolas Angelsky and Emma Angelsky, five great grandchildren Maddie Kennard, Kyle Kennard, Keaton Kennard, Chloe Thurston and Alexis Thurston. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Edna Sanders, brother George Sanders and great grandson Nolan Kennard.

Pastor Robert Keck will conduct a service on Saturday October 17, 2020 at 2PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IIN and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/donald-sanders. Please use Firefox Internet or Google Chrome for optimal viewing. Friends may call Saturday October 17. 2020 from 12 Noon until the 2PM service at the mortuary. Due to COVID-19 mandates, facial coverings or mask are required for those attending. A private family graveside service will be conducted following the service with military honors being conducted by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.
