Johnson propels Taylor golf to IWU Invite title

Taylor University sophomore Javan Johnson tied for fifth place individually as he led the Trojans men’s golf team to the championship of the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville. Johnson, who played golf at Franklin, shot 74-74-75—223.

Sophomore Lucy Young helped lead the Grace College women’s golf team to a third-place finish at the NCCAA National Championships in Palm Coast, Florida. Young’s three-round total of 81-86-72—239 earned her a tie for 11th individually.

Freshman Alex Heck, a member of the Valparaiso men’s golf team, shot 79 to tie for second on his team in the Crusaders’ 306-316 dual match loss at Drake.

IU Southeast sophomore volleyball player Santina Schembra had five digs and a service ace in a three-set loss to IU East. She added eight digs in the team’s loss to IU Kokomo.

The Valparaiso women’s tennis fall season closed at the ITA Midwest Regional at Michigan State University, with sophomore Isabella Schoolcraft selected to compete in both singles and doubles play.

Defender Katie Schier started for the St. Francis women’s soccer team in its 3-0 home loss to Grace College. The sophomore has been a starter in every match so far this season.

Louisville senior defensive back Russ Yeast had four tackles and broke up a pass in the Cardinals’ 12-7 loss at Notre Dame.

Goalkeeper Maddy Moan made eight saves for Huntington’s women’s soccer team in its 5-0 loss at Taylor.
