Indy man hospitalized after single-car crash

An Indianapolis man survived after flipping his car several times Wednesday night in Greenwood.

Just before 9 p.m., David Garcia was traveling eastbound on County Line Road. A witness said he stopped at the Graham Road intersection, turned up his music and accelerated his car at a high speed, weaving around other cars on the road, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The witness told deputies he saw Garcia’s car lose control and flip several times before landing in a group of trees off the side of the road. Evidence at the scene confirmed Garcia was speeding before he went off the road on the south end, according to the report.

"The vehicle drove into a ditch for over 100 feet and ramped the edge of the driveway, causing the vehicle to catapult into the air," the report said. "The vehicle began flipping end over end. It struck the ground three times before resting upside down in a group of trees."

Garcia was thrown from the vehicle during the last flip, and found about 10 feet away, according to the report.

When first responders arrived, Garcia was barely responsive but breathing, the report said. He was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with several leg fractures and possible internal injuries.

Garcia is in stable condition, a hospital spokesperson said.
