Man arrested after car, foot pursuit

A Shelbyville man was arrested after leading sheriff’s deputies on a car and foot pursuit Saturday night in Franklin.

Dominick Elisha Grimes, 22, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, a Level 6 felony, resisting law enforcement and an out-of-county warrant for a battery charge.

A sheriff’s deputy was driving toward U.S. 31 on Hospital Road, when he ran the plate of a car in front of him and learned the plate was not registered to that car, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

The deputy turned his lights on to initiate a traffic stop, but the car continued to travel south on U.S. 31 at about 20 mph. The car continued to make abrupt jerks while driving, according to the report.

The car then turned on Nineveh Road but did not stop until it turned into the driveway of a house on the road. The driver, later identified as Grimes, exited the car and fled on foot toward U.S. 31, the report said.

Assisting deputies detained two passengers, while another deputy followed Grimes with a K-9. The K-9 located Grimes hiding in a bush and bit his leg, according to the report.

Once Grimes was detained, he continued to resist arrest and started seizing before going unconscious, the report said. Officers gave him first aid and a dose of Narcan at the scene. He became semi-responsive once medics arrived, and was transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Grimes was released from the hospital and taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $2,200 bond.
