Boys basketball sectional draw revealed

As always, plenty of Johnson County grudge matches will be on the menu when boys basketball sectional play gets underway next week.

The brackets were unveiled by the IHSAA on Sunday night.

Class 4A sectional host Whiteland got a bye into the March 5 semifinal round. The Warriors will face the winner of next Tuesday’s first-round battle between Franklin and reigning sectional champion Greenwood.

On the other side of that sectional draw, Center Grove drew a tough first-round date with Franklin Central on March 2. The survivor of that matchup will play Shelbyville in the other semifinal game.

In the Class 3A sectional at Beech Grove, Indian Creek faces a first-round date with Herron on March 2. The winner of that game will face Speedway in a March 5 semifinal.

Edinburgh drew a first-round bye in the Class A West Washington Sectional, advancing to face either Crothersville or Trinity Lutheran on March 5. The fifth-ranked Lancers would likely see the host Senators in the title match a day later.

Greenwood Christian, meanwhile, got a tough draw in the Indianapolis Lutheran Sectional, with a first-round date against Tindley on March 2. The Cougars are the defending sectional champion, but the Tigers come in with the highest Sagarin rating.
