Fisher named as next assistant AD at Center Grove

Katie Fisher’s work commute will be significantly shorter come summertime.

The Greenwood resident, who has worked the past six seasons as the girls basketball coach at Bishop Chatard, was named the next assistant athletic director at Center Grove on Wednesday afternoon.

Fisher will step into her new role when current assistant Scott Knapp moves into the AD post at the end of June. Knapp was previously appointed as the successor to the retiring Jon Zwitt.

“I think we’re going to make a really good team,” Fisher said of working with Knapp.

This will not be Fisher’s first time venturing over to the administrative side. Prior to her stint at Chatard, she spent two years as the athletic director at Indianapolis Manual. Fisher has also worked at University of Indianapolis, her alma mater, as an assistant women’s basketball coach and a graduate assistant for athletic development and marketing.

Even before moving into the job, Fisher has plenty of ties to the Center Grove community. The oldest of her two daughters already attends school in the district, and her husband Kyle has previously served as an assistant under Trojans baseball coach Keith Hatfield.

When asked whether she might again get the coaching bug herself one day, Fisher said that would be limited to potentially coaching her daughters’ youth sports teams. When it comes to the high school level, she’s content with her new role with the Trojans.

Knapp is excited about their partnership as well.

“I look forward to working with Katie,” Knapp said in a statement, “and collaborating on new ideas that will ensure Center Grove continues to be the standard of excellence in athletics throughout the state of Indiana.”
