James O Baughman

GREENWOOD

James O. Baughman (Jim), age 90, went to sing in the heavenly choirs on March 11, 2021. Born September 8, 1930, to Wilbert and Mary (Morris) Baughman, he spent much of his early life in Lebanon and Frankfort, Indiana. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1948. He lived in Indianapolis most of his adult life, residing in Franklin since 2012.

In 1961, he married Ann (Oldham) Baughman, who survives. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. He then worked at the Allison Division of General Motors for 40 years, from 1952 to 1992, primarily in the Accounting department.

Jim was a loving father, devoted husband, and excellent grandfather. He enjoyed a good laugh, gardening, singing in the church choir, and traveling with Ann after retirement. Together they embarked on several cruises, visiting many countries. He had a beautiful baritone voice, which he faithfully lent to the church choir on many, many Sundays; his favorite solos were “O Holy Night”, “The Lord’s Prayer”, and “The Holy City.”

He was most recently a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, Indiana; previously, he was a member of West Newton United Methodist Church.

Besides his wife Ann, he is survived by a sister, Mary Ann (Don) Purtlebaugh; his two children, Jane (Michael) Parker, and Jon Baughman; six grandchildren, Daniel (Katie) Beasley, Clare Parker, Seth Parker, Samantha Baughman, Alex Baughman, and George Baughman; one great-grandchild, Andrew Beasley. He was predeceased by his parents, and one brother, Charles Eugene Baughman. The family would like to thank the many staff members at Otterbein Senior Living Community for their care and assistance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org), the Disabled American Veterans Association (dav.org) or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.
