GREENWOOD
Carolyn Jean (Burkhart) McClain left her earthly body on Friday March 26, 2021at the age of 91 with loved ones at her side. She was born January 18, 1930 in Union Township, Indiana to Dolly and Glenn Burkhart.
Carolyn graduated from Union High School in 1948 and then married her love, Jay Myers McClain on October 22, 1949. They spent 53 years together until his death in 2002. She gave faithful service to the National Bank of Greenwood for over thirty years. After retirement she enjoyed tending her garden, watching IU basketball, Colts football, and spending time with her family. Carolyn volunteered with St. Francis Hospital where her gracious personality brought comfort to those receiving treatment in the Breast Center. She was a lifelong member of Greenwood Christian Church and enjoyed giving her time and talent to the church’s flower garden.
Carolyn will be fondly remembered by her children, Marsha (Steve) Gray, Michael McClain, and Mark (Joy) McClain; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jay, Carolyn was preceded in death by her siblings, Lowell Burkhart, Richard Burkhart, Harold Burkhart, Jerry Burkhart and Judy Dillow; daughter-in-law, Helena (Nina) McClain; and grandson, Matthew McClain.
Carolyn’s outgoing and gracious spirit will be missed by those who knew her well, as well as in long lines as she never met a stranger. She exemplified unconditional love and devotion. Her hands were never idle; her heart continuously poured out. She was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends from 4:00pm – 8:00pm Monday, March 29 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Funeral service is Tuesday, March 30 at 11:00am, also at Forest Lawn.
