Bowling

Locals earn top-15 state finishes

All three Johnson County bowlers who competed in Saturday’s IHSB state finals in Fort Wayne placed in the top 15 in singles competition.

Franklin’s Easton Henderson led the local contingent by finishing 12th among the boys with a score of 584. Teammate Jacob Dinkens was close behind at 547, good for 15th.

On the girls side, Whiteland’s Lilly Pryor posted a total score of 512 to place 13th.

Baseball wins on walk-off

Nick Wright went 4 for 6 with seven RBIs, and his grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning closed the book on Franklin College’s 12-9 triumph over Earlham on Saturday afternoon.

Quenton Wellington homered and drove in three for the Grizzlies (6-3). The second game of the doubleheader was suspended with the score tied at 8-8 in the 11th inning; that game will be completed on May 1.

Men’s soccer tops Ravens

Jacob Thompson scored twice in the final 9:19 to lift Franklin College to a 3-1 home win over Anderson. Isaac Gleitz found the net in the first half for the Grizzlies (2-5-1).

Women’s soccer blanks Anderson

Lilly Haines tallied a pair of goals and Brianna Rogers kept a clean sheet as Franklin College posted a 2-0 shutout of Anderson. Mackenzie Wilhelm and Hannah Warstler recorded their first career assists for the Grizzlies (4-2).

Women’s tennis edges Principia

Caitlin Fedor’s win at second singles clinched Franklin College’s 5-4 victory over Principia. Kinley Harmon, who teamed with Fedor for a doubles win, also earned a point at No. 4 singles for the Grizzlies (1-2). Samantha Schick won at fifth singles and picked up a doubles point with Maecee Terhune.
