Evelyn A. Everett

GREENWOOD

Evelyn Everett was born at home in Putnam County, Indiana on July 31, 1931 to parents Wilbur and Winnie Arnold.

The sixth child of 11, Evelyn’s farm family included Kathryn, Eula, Mary, Wilbur Jr, Sam, Elizabeth, Faith, and John. Her affectionate younger sisters Alice and Sarah survive.

Evelyn passed away April 15, 2021.

At Indiana State University, Evelyn met Herb Everett of Fritchton, IN. They married in 1952 at Butler University, where they both earned their teaching masters.

“Honey, I’ll be glad when we can have our home,” Herb wrote to Evelyn during his Army days in Korea. “It will be great to plan so many things together.”

The couple raised 4 Greenwood Marching Woodmen: Peggy on clarinet, Mark on baritone, Karen on saxophone, and Dean on mellophone. In-laws Karen and Keith were always treated as equals.

In Greenwood, Evelyn taught at Northeast, then Isom Elementary. She loved the rectangular-cut cafeteria pizza.

Evelyn was a Girl Scout leader, a fan of family camping, and an advocate for deaf awareness.

In one game at Astro Bowl, Evelyn scored over 200 points.

Grandchildren Alex, Deanna, Nate, and Victoria enjoyed Evelyn’s marigolds, irises, and peonies, as well as reckless games of Spoons.

Evelyn loved the expanded family: Abigail, Brian, Brian Keith, Cooper, Isabelle, John, Oliver, Madison, Megan, and Tracey.

The family extends its love to the Greenwood Presbyterian Church, where Evelyn and Herb taught many summertime lessons at vacation bible schools.

A special shout to friend Eleanor Mitchell. Evelyn loved working with you at the church to put together the community clothes closet.

Thanks also to the Mt Pleasant Christian Church for providing its chapel for Evelyn’s funeral.
