Margaret “Dureta” Stanley

Margaret “Dureta” Stanley, 89, passed away on July 18th, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Glenwood, IN.

Dureta was born August 7th, 1931 at her grandparents’ farm in Wells County, In. to the late James H. and Bertha (Kizer) Roberts. She grew up in Muncie, IN., spending her summers as a young child on her grandparents’ farm, where she developed her love of animals, especially cats.

She graduated from Central High School in Muncie in 1948.She attended Ball State Teachers College (now Ball State University), earning her Bachelors degree in Speech and Hearing in 1952, followed by her Masters degree in 1963.

She spent her career as a speech pathologist for Muncie Community Schools until her retirement in 1996. She also taught at the university level for Ball State and Taylor Universities, but she most enjoyed working with elementary school children.

After retiring, she and her husband moved to Deming, NM. where they spent many years traveling the country in their 5th wheel, and later in their motor home. When not traveling, she enjoyed painting in water colors and rock hounding.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 26 years (Gale Sexton) in 1977, and her second husband of 37 years (Charles Stanley) in 2016, her daughter Donna Sue (David) Wallace, her grandaughter Ginny Lea Wallace, her great-grandaughter Caitlyn Gene Sexton and great-grandaughter Audrey Rose Goins.

She is survived by her son Cregg (Janie) Sexton of Port Orange, Fl., daughter Sheila (Skip) Guyer of Glenwood, In., daughter Twilla Brower of Syracuse, In., brother-in-law Lee Stanley of Greenville, Oh., 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
