FRANKLIN

Virginia L. “Genny” Ditterline, 91, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021. She was born April 21, 1930 in Evansville (Howell) to the late John and Goldie (Hickrod) Kissel.

Genny graduated in 1948 from Reitz High School. During her high school years, she worked in downtown Evansville at the Juice Bar and Nut Bar passing out samples. After graduating she tried secretarial work but didn’t enjoy it. She began waitressing at McDowell’s restaurant on 4th Street in Evansville, and then at Wesselman’s Café in Lawndale Center. She had many devoted customers who would wait for her to have an open table. She married her husband, Hugh, on May 18, 1968. They purchased a home and moved to Newburgh, ultimately settling in Old Stone House Subdivision. They moved to Kuttawa (Barkley Lake) in 1998 where they fished and enjoyed their boats. She attended Kuttawa United Methodist Church where she had many friends who she loved.

She was a founding member of American Legion Post #68 Auxiliary in Lyon County, KY, where she was elected as their first president. Genny suffered a stroke in 2005 and she and Hugh moved to the Masonic Home in Franklin, IN. They built a home she loved.

Genny liked eating at Gray Cafeteria in Mooresville, IN where she saw so many of her special friends who would care for her. She enjoyed growing flowers, needle point, crosswords and spelling, as she was an excellent speller.
