Trojans win top-10 clash

No. 4 Center Grove dominated its road dual with ninth-ranked Carmel on Wednesday, picking up a convincing 57-9 victory. The Trojans got wins by fall from Charlie LaRocca (106 pounds), Edward Goss (113), Reese Courtney (120), Julian Weems (160), Drake Buchanan (182), Royce Deckard (220) and Nathan Johnson (285). Hayden Watson won by technical fall at 145, Noah Clouser won by major decision at 170 and Wyatt Kresja (132) and Bryce Crump (195) each won decisions.

Center Grove seniors sign

Signing day was a busy one for Center Grove football, which saw six seniors ink letters of intent with Division I colleges on Wednesday. Caden Curry signed with Ohio State one day after verbally committing, while James Schott (Michigan State) will join him in the Big Ten. Tayven Jackson (Tennessee), Kalen Carroll (Cincinnati), Sam Buras (Ball State) and Shane Bennett (Indiana State) rounded out the Trojans’ signing class.

Carroll, Curry and Jackson are all enrolling in January at their respective schools.

Girls soccer

Trojans get new coach

Myron Vaughn, a longtime club and high school coach in the greater Indianapolis area, was named as the next girls coach at Center Grove on Wednesday. Vaughn, who previously played at the University of Cincinnati and coached boys soccer at Westfield, is currently the assistant director of coaching at South Central Soccer Academy.

Woodmen pull off sweep

Greenwood’s boys took the 400 freestyle relay to pull out a 92-88 victory over Decatur Central on Tuesday night, while the girls cruised to a 129-56 win. Conner Peckinpaugh (100 and 200 freestyle) and Andrew Mears (100 butterfly, 500 free) were double individual winners for the Woodmen boys, with Arya Gokhale (200 IM) and Joe Sheets (100 breaststroke) adding first-place efforts. Winning events for the girls were Hailey Peckinpaugh (200 and 500 freestyle), Madison Peckinpaugh (IM, breaststroke), Reagan Graves (50 free), Naomi Weaver (100 free) and Chloe Vitatoe (100 backstroke).
