Greenwood City Council caucus moved to Feb. 17

A Greenwood City Council caucus scheduled for today has been pushed back two weeks due to the winter storm.

The County GOP caucus to replace Bob Dine, who resigned from the city council and left an at-large seat open, was scheduled to take place Thursday night. However, due to the storm, county GOP officials decided to postpone it, said Beth Boyce, county GOP chair.

State law requires the caucus to be rescheduled at least 10 days later, and officials say it will now take place on Feb. 17. Due to the delay, filing is also reopened, with the new deadline being 7 p.m. Feb. 14 — 72 hours before the caucus, she said.

The four candidates who have already filed — David Cox, Shane Cunningham, Drew Foster and Ronald Palmer — will not need to refile, as the filing period was just extended, Boyce said.

Since Dine served as a Republican, any Republican in the city of Greenwood is eligible to run to replace him. Those interested should send a letter of interest and an executed and notarized copy of a CEB-5 form to Boyce at 845 Richart Lane, Greenwood, IN, 46142 by 7 p.m. Feb. 14.

Candidates should be able to serve until Dec. 31, 2023, the end of Dine’s elected term.
