David E. Burmeister, 81, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away from this life to his eternal home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, a day before his 82nd birthday. He was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Elmer and Emma Burmeister. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Hubert James Goins. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather; his daughter, Cynthia L. Browning of Iowa; and a son-in-law, Stephen T. Swain of Alabama. Mr. Burmeister is survived by his significant other of 23 years, Sharon Parry of Beech Grove; his children, Becky (Curtis) Haywood of Rockville, David (Linda) Burmeister of New Whiteland, Janet (Scott) Maley of Columbus, Lori (Donald “Matt”) Matheson of Alabama, and Suzanne (Darryl) Sellers of Alabama. Mr. Burmeister is also survived by his grandchildren, Katelyn Haywood, Christina Scott, Brandon Moore, John Browning, Luke Browning, Joshua Burmeister, Jacob Burmeister, Jordan Maley, Caleb Maley, Cody Smiddy, Kayla Smiddy, Kiera Moore, Kai Moore, and Victoria Spellman. Mr. Burmeister worked for Ford dealerships as a mechanic for many years in the Greenwood area and later worked for Amtrak Railroad where he retired. He enjoyed working on cars and swapping out engines “just for fun”. He loved hot rods; he could diagnose problems with cars over the phone. He had a real love of country music, singing and playing his guitar, which he taught to his son at age 10. David knew no stranger and would help anyone in need, especially someone stranded. He was an avid euchre card player in the Beech Grove area and had many friends that knew he was a real character.
