Lifeline flew two people to Indianapolis hospitals after a serious crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 65.

Firefighters were called just before 4 a.m. to I-65 near County Road 250 South, just south of Franklin, on reports of an overturned semi. When they arrived, they found the semi and a passenger car had collided. Both cars had one occupant — the drivers, said Jackie Brockman, chief of the Amity Community Fire Department.

When Amity firefighters arrived on scene, they were told that the driver of the car had pulled herself from the wreckage. Also, by pure chance, a Jackson County ambulance was returning from a patient transfer in Indianapolis and witnessed the crash. The paramedic rendered aid to the driver of the car, Brockman said.

Firefighters had to extricate the semi-truck driver, he said.

The identities and conditions of the drivers were not available immediately, and the cause of the crash is being investigated, Brockman said.

Fire departments from Amity, Edinburgh and Franklin responded, along with Seals Ambulance, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police.

The right southbound lane of I-65 remains closed between Greensburg Road and S. County Road 800 E., according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
