IWU’s Munn picks up conference honors

Indiana Wesleyan senior Danielle Munn was named the Crossroads League pitcher of the week after allowing just one hit and striking out 10 in a game against Reinhart. It’s the third time Munn, a Whiteland graduate, has won the award.

Whiteland

Sophomore Zach Ricketts tied for 14th individually for Franklin College men’s golf at the Music City Invitational, shooting a 76-78—154.

Addison Csikos had two singles for Franklin College softball in its season-opening 4-3 loss at Carroll (Wisconsin).

Tyler Wick pitched two innings of relief for the Franklin College baseball team in an 11-6 victory over Albion.

Morehead State pitcher Luke Helton took a loss against Canisius, allowing eight hits and striking out three over 5 1/3 innings.

The Franklin College men’s basketball team won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament for a second consecutive season. Junior forward Carter Crowe scored 14 points in the semifinal win over Rose-Hulman, and had 11 points and five rebounds in the championship game, a 91-84 victory at Hanover.

Center Grove

The Franklin College baseball team opened the season with three wins against Albion. Junior pitcher Jackson Young picked up the victory in the second outing, working the first six innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. In the third outing, an 11-5 Grizzlies victory, senior Chris Foote pitched one inning of relief and struck out two batters to get the win. Freshman Jimmy Wolff and senior Garett Hill each scored a run in the series.

Southern Indiana first baseman Lexi Fair had two hits and scored two runs as the softball team played four games in the KWC Blue Ridge Battle.

Northwestern softball won three of five games at the Mary Nutter Classic in California. Senior catcher Jordyn Rudd contributed four hits for the Wildcats, including a home run.

Duke junior Erica Shepherd tied for 27th with a three-round score of 220 as the Blue Devils women’s golf team finished 10th at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

Indiana freshman pole vaulter Taylor Jarosinski placed 17th at the women’s Big Ten indoor track and field championships, clearing a best of 3.72 meters (12 feet, 2½ inches).

Indiana Wesleyan guard Spencer Piercefield scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and made four steals in an 84-76 loss to Grace College at the Crossroads League men’s basketball tournament.

Junior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis played a big role for Indiana in wins over Maryland and Minnesota, scoring 10 and 14 points, respectively, while also grabbing eight rebounds against the Golden Gophers. In the Hoosiers’ 66-63 loss to visiting Rutgers, he scored 19 points and had nine boards.

Bentley guard Ella Thompson had 12 points and two assists to help lead the team to a 75-48 win over New Haven in the opening round of the Northeast 10 championships.

Vermont guard Emma Utterback eclipsed her career-high with 25 points as the women’s basketball squad posted a 64-44 win at Lowell. She also finished with five assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Purdue senior guard Cassidy Hardin scored five points and had two rebounds in a 68-51 loss at Northwestern. She added 14 points, three rebounds and four assists in a 63-62 home loss to Wisconsin to close the regular season.

Franklin

Kentucky softball played in the Florida Atlantic Strikeout Cancer Classic. Freshman Izzy Harrison pitched two innings of relief, striking out three, in the Wildcats’ 10-2 victory over LIU.

Franklin College diver Gauge Creech secured third-place finishes in both the 1- and 3-meter competitions at the NCAA regional in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Creech, who had a score of 496.0 points in the 3-meter event and 456.90 in the 1-meter competition, advanced to this month’s national finals.

Junior Javan Johnson tied for 23rd individually with a three-round score of 236 as Taylor men’s golf placed fourth of nine teams at the Showdown at Legends.

Greenwood

Franklin College junior Faith Jackson placed 15th in the 3-meter diving competition at the NCAA women’s regional with a score of 365.85 points. She was 21st in the 1-meter with 330.90 points.

The Taylor baseball team won three of four games against Olivet Nazarene in Athens, Tennessee. Junior T.J. Bass finished the series with three hits, including two home runs, and eight runs driven in.

University of Indianapolis softball player Lexy Rees belted a three-run homer in a 9-0 win over Ohio Dominican, and added a two-run double as the Greyhounds defeated Wheeling, 13-2. Rees drove in six runs in a 16-0 blanking of Davis and Evans, while teammate Dominique Proctor had a double and single.
