Arbor to bring 200 homes to Whiteland

A 200-home subdivision got the greenlight Tuesday in Whiteland.

The Whiteland Town Council unanimously approved a request to rezone 72 acres at Emerson Avenue and Tracy Road from agriculture to PUD to build an Arbor Homes neighborhood.

The subdivision, dubbed Stillwater Glen, will include walkways through the development and a half-acre neighborhood playground, according to plans filed with the town.

The neighborhood would connect via two stub streets to a Lennar Homes subdivision that is under construction directly north of the property in Greenwood, plans show.

The homes would be from the company’s Arbor product line, and come with a choice of 11 floor plans and six exterior elevation styles, said Charles Russell, an Arbor Homes representative. The homes would likely sell for an average of $335,000, he said.

The development was continued last month. Council members wanted to get a verbal agreement Arbor Homes representatives made during last month’s meeting in writing before they took a vote.

One of the items under discussion was a request for Arbor to provide a connection for future utility services on the east side of Emerson Avenue, and to increase the size of the park to at least an acre.

Since the last meeting, Arbor submitted a document that says they agree to the town’s requested commitments.

No one from the public spoke for or against the rezoning at Tuesday night’s meeting.

This was a win for the Indianapolis-based company after being turned down twice this year in Johnson County.

In January, the Whiteland Town Council turned down a 154-home development on a 73-acre property on Whiteland Road because it lacked amenities and the homes featured too much vinyl siding, council members said at the time.

The company returned so quickly because they felt strongly about building in Whiteland due to a severe lack of available homes, Russell told the council last month.
