Franklin installing traffic signal control devices

Those who work or drive through downtown Franklin may have noticed workers putting up devices on streetlights, but they are not traffic cameras.

The city of Franklin is installing traffic signal preemption devices that will clear intersections during police, fire and ambulance runs. The city received a federal safety grant through the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization, said Mark Richards, city engineer.

The grant covered 90% of the cost for design, construction and inspection, he said.

Work is expected to be completed by April 30.
