The power and grace of the Wurlitzer organ will be on full display during the spring fundraising concert for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association.
“The Mighty Wuhlitzer” features acclaimed organist J. Jelani Eddington performing a blend of music ranging from symphonic classical to Boston Pops to Broadway hits.
A short silent film will also offer a nostalgic look at the original purpose of the Wurlitzer theatre organ.
The concert will be 2 p.m. April 24 at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, 45 Monument Circle, Indianapolis. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.
Eddington is one of the most prominent performing organists in the world. The Muncie native has performed in most of the major concert venues throughout the United States, has toured extensively abroad, and has received numerous awards and recognitions, including his selection as the 2001 Theatre Organist of the Year.
Proceeds from the concert support the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s educational programming, including the Discovery Concert Series providing elementary school students in grades three to six an opportunity to see live orchestra concerts.
Ticket sales also support other Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association initiatives, such as Symphony in Color, a program blending symphonic music and visual arts, involving more than 30,000 Indiana school children.
