Here’s the latest on I-69 construction in Johnson County

A new milestone of Interstate 69 project in Johnson County will be complete soon.

As early as next week, northbound drivers will be able to go directly from State Road 37 to State Road 144, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation. Southbound Johnson County drivers have been able to turn directly from State Road 37 to 144, but northbound drivers have had to take a detour, going as far north as County Line Road to turn around and go southbound due to construction.

Drivers on State Road 37 will experience single-lane closures during daytime hours as workers make progress on the future Smith Valley Road overpass. Work will start on the right lane of southbound State Road 37, and will move across the median to the northbound lanes, INDOT officials say.

In Marion County, the Southport Road I-69 interchange is expected to partially open sometime in November. When that happens, workers will activate new traffic signals at State Road 37 access points, Wellingshire Boulevard and the realigned Belmont Avenue, INDOT officials say.

Lane closures for construction crews on Interstate 465 will also continue as crews prepare the Carson Avenue bridge deck for concrete. Paving will also take place this week near Wicker Road and State Road 37, INDOT officials say.

Morgan County drivers are advised to slow down for a temporary traffic pattern at Waverly Park Road and State Road 144 for roundabout construction. Cable barrier installation, permanent striping and other finishing touches on I-69 between Martinsville and Henderson Ford Road will be completed in the coming weeks, INDOT officials say.
