Class 4A No. 5 Center Grove will get to begin postseason play next week on its home floor, and it learned Sunday evening that it’ll also get to do so against a familiar foe.
The Trojans’ first-round sectional game will come against county rival Greenwood, a team it defeated 66-49 in its season opener back on Nov. 23. Three-plus months later, the Woodmen will have a shot at a rematch. The winner will take on Bloomington South in a semifinal matchup.
Meanwhile, in the Columbus North Sectional pairings, Johnson County’s other two 4A teams wouldn’t get a chance to meet up until the championship game. Whiteland drew a first-round bye and will get either Shelbyville or East Central in the semifinal round. Franklin, a sectional champion last winter, plays the host Bull Dogs — who just defeated the Grizzly Cubs in a double-overtime battle on Saturday night, 70-58 — on the bottom side of the draw. Whoever emerges from that game plays Columbus East in the other semifinal.
Indian Creek was granted a free pass through the opening round of the Class 3A Northview Sectional, and the Braves will play a semifinal game against either the host Knights or Owen Valley. Drew Glentzer’s team defeated both handily earlier in the season, posting a 72-49 road win over the Patriots on Dec. 2 and winning at Northview, 66-42, on Jan. 20. Indian Creek is also 3-0 against the other half of the bracket.
In Class A, host Edinburgh drew a first-round date with South Decatur, a team that handed it a 75-58 defeat a little over a month ago. The winner of that game plays a semifinal against Oldenburg Academy. Should the Lancers reach the final, they’re 3-0 against teams on the other side of the bracket and all of those wins have been by 22 points or more.
Greenwood Christian — which takes a nine-game win streak into the final week of the regular season — opens play in the Class A Indianapolis Lutheran Sectional with a first-round game against Tindley. Victory College Prep, which drew a first-round bye, awaits the winner.
