Maple Grove Elementary School fourth grade teacher Katie Jones and Sugar Grove Elementary School fifth grade teacher Erin Brown were both named 2023 Indiana University Jacobs Educators.

Indiana University has awarded two Center Grove teachers for their innovative technology usage.

Sugar Grove Elementary School fifth grade teacher Erin Brown and Maple Grove Elementary School fourth grade teacher Katie Jones were both named 2023 Indiana University Jacobs Educators, according to a news release from Center Grove Community School Corporation.

The nationwide award established in 2012 has recognized educators all over the country for integrating technology to solve problems and assist student learning. The teachers received a stipend as part of the recognition and will be tasked with sharing their expertise with the Indiana University School of Education in the form of usable materials for teachers.

Brown has been a teacher for seven years, six of which she’s spent at Center Grove schools. The award will help propel her exploration of technology, Brown said in the release.

“It is such an honor to be named a Jacobs Educator and to be a part of an incredible group of educators,” she said. “I look forward to learning and collaborating with the team and look at this as an opportunity to continue my learning.”

Jones has been with Center Grove schools for four years, part of a 15-year career.

“I have loved learning more about computer science this year and implementing new strategies in my classroom,” Jones said in the release. “I really enjoy watching my students engage with computer science knowing how important it is for our future. I feel so honored to be a Jacobs Educator Award winner.”
