Sherman Lee Strahla, 92, passed away on February 24th 2023 at 9:00 PM in Greenwood, Indiana. He was born on January 9th 1931 in Lewis Township, Clay County, Indiana to Melvin and Sarah (Puckett) Strahla. Sherman graduated from Lewis Township High School, Indiana State University with a Bachelors in Science and a Masters degree. Sherman married his high school sweetheart, Ruth (Sluder) on November 21st 1951. They lived 68 years of wonderful marriage years until Ruth passed away December 30th 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herschell and Roy Strahla, and sister Violet Crow. He is survived by his sons Richard and James Strahla, and daughter Sarah and (Frank) Caudill; and five grandchildren Dondi Strahla, Dori Strahla-Montgomery, Jason and Raven (Hill) Dickens, Mark Dickens, Jacob Lewis; and six great grandchildren Kourtni and (Evan) James, Travis Ramage, Ashlynn Strahla, Abby Strahla, Brent Strahla, Lizzy Strahla; and four great great grandchildren Bella James, Kynslee james, Koralee James, Leo Ramage. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sherman spent military time in the Indiana National Guard, active duty in US Army and time in the army reserve. He was a farmer, mechanic and a school teacher for 35 years mostly in Wayne Township, Marion County. He enjoyed teaching and helping students. Sherm was always friendly and would give to any that needed it. He spent a lot of time working on God’s house. Sherm liked building and repairing houses and other buildings. Sherman and Ruth owned maintained properties in Indiana and Florida. Sherm’s sons Rick and Jim worked with him on many of his projects. Ruth and Sarah maintained the house and cooked the meals while the boys were working and enjoying life at the lake.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. St. Rd. 135, Greenwood, Indiana, with the service at 1:00pm.
