ORIGINAL STORY
Edinburgh police arrested a Greenwood man following the shooting death of a 14-year-old Saturday night in Edinburgh.

Pedro C. Castillo-Salmeron, 20, was arrested on a preliminary charge of reckless homicide.

At 8:02 p.m., Edinburgh police responded to a person shot in the 600 block of South Pleasant Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 14-year-old white male suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. The juvenile was transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis where he was pronounced dead, according to a press release from Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little.

The name of the juvenile is not being released at this time until the next of kin is notified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office, police say.

Police were advised that the suspect had fled the scene and a witness identified the suspect as Castillo-Salmeron. Police searched for him and found him within about 30 minutes. He was taken into custody without incident, police say.

He was booked into the Johnson County jail at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, booking records show. His booking address says Greensburg, but Little said his most recent place of residence is Greenwood, so he is being referred to as a Greenwood man.

There is no known motive at this time and the investigation is still ongoing, Little said.

Anyone who has information on this investigation is asked to contact Little at 812-526-3500 or [email protected].
