You know summer is right around the bend when local farmers markets open up, and Greenwood’s kicks off the season with the opening of their market. Search a variety of products from local producers, from vegetables and herbs to baked goods to meat raised right in Johnson County. Cut flowers, hot peppers and more will be featured among the market vendors, with more products available as the growing season gets into full swing.

JOHNSON COUNTY GARDEN CELEBRATION, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 6, Johnson County fairgrounds, Scott Hall and Herring Hall, 250 Fairground St., Franklin

For everyone itching to get their gardens going this spring, the Johnson County Garden Club and Purdue Extension Johnson County have a one-stop shop to make this the best growing season yet. More than 45 vendors will be set up selling all kinds of different items related to the outdoors. Seed packets and tree saplings will be given away while supplies last, and breakfast and lunch by MOBOWL will be available for purchase at the Garden Cafe.

Diane Blazek, executive director of All-America Selections and National Garden Bureau, will present a series of seminars throughout the morning. Admission is $2 at the door, cash only.
