Lancers eliminated from sectional

Edinburgh’s season came to an end with a 5-0 loss at No. 12 Columbus North in the first round of sectional play on Wednesday. All five matches were decided in straight sets. The Lancers finish the season with a 5-11 record.

Franklin tops Cougars, Quakers

Rounds of 40 from Luke Bechert, Reid Davidson and Jack Lock helped Franklin (162) get past Plainfield (164) and Greenwood Christian (185) at The Legends on Wednesday. Jake Lock added a 42 for the Grizzly Cubs.

Grizzly Cubs top Hawks

Beau Baker went 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lead Franklin to a 6-3 win at Decatur Central on Wednesday. Pryce Rucker also drove in three runs for the Grizzly Cubs (13-13, 8-6 Mid-State), while Max Clark was 2 for 3 with three runs scored.

Warriors fall in eight

Whiteland pushed Class 4A No. 6 Mooresville to an extra inning before suffering a 6-4 setback. Peyton Dickens drove in a pair of runs for the Warriors (10-12, 6-7 Mid-State), while starting pitcher Drew Helton yielded two earned runs in seven innings of work.

Baseball players earn HCAC honors

Jonathan LaGuire-Cruz was named the HCAC’s Player of the Year on Wednesday, topping a list of Franklin College players honored by the conference ahead of an NCAA tournament appearance this weekend. Sean Sullivan, A.J. Sanders, Tysen Lipscomb, Jackson Young and Maddox Manes all joined LaGuire-Cruz on the All-HCAC first team. Matthew Johnson was a second-team pick and Noah Wood was honorable mention for the Grizzlies, who open NCAA Division III regional play in Birmingham, Alabama with a 3:30 p.m. Friday game against La Verne (California).
