Seven Johnson County educators had their classroom project funding goals funded by the SONIC Foundation, the charitable arm of SONIC Drive-ins.
For Teacher Appreciation Month, the foundation used $1.5 million to match public contributions to funding requests made on DonorsChoose.org, a national nonprofit fundraising website that allows the public to directly fund classroom funding requests from public school teachers, according to a press release on the donation.
The foundation used money from SONIC’s Limeades for Learning initiative to match 50% of of each donation made to teacher requests on the website. A portion of every drink sale at SONIC locations across the country is contributed to Limeades for Learning, the SONIC Foundation’s website says.
The following local teachers received a total of $699 in funding from the SONIC Foundation:

Clark Elementary teacher Ms. Arndt had her request fully funded to buy xylophones for her third-grade classroom.
Center Grove Middle School Central teacher Mrs. Yount had her request for a gift card to purchase digital resources for students fully funded.
Grassy Creek Elementary teacher Mrs. Bowling had three requests to purchase music instruments for her classroom fully funded. Students will get ukuleles, drums and xylophones for music class with the donations.
Ray Crowe Elementary teacher Mrs. Campbell was fully funded for her request to purchase organizational carts for her third grade math students.
Ray Crowe Elementary teacher Ms. Lundy was fully funded for her project to purchase mallets for her class’s Orff instrument ensemble.
Westwood Elementary teacher Ms. Rauschuber was fully funded for her project to purchase mallets for her class’s Orff instrument ensemble.
