A Whiteland Town Council member held on to his seat after winning the caucus breaking the tied-up Ward 2 race.
Brad Goedeker will move on to the November general municipal election, after defeating challenger Scot Ford in a Republican Party caucus held Tuesday evening. Goedeker won three out of the four votes.
The caucus was held by the Johnson County GOP as a way to break a tie between the two candidates in the May 2 Republican primary. Both Goedeker and Ford received 103 votes each.
The four precinct committeemen who represent Ward 2 in Whiteland voted in the caucus to select the winner.
Goedeker is going for his third term on the council. He has said he wanted to run for one more term to see Whiteland through its period of growth and change. Goedeker joined the town council through a caucus in 2019 to fill the term of a council member who left, and he won the municipal election for Ward 2 later that year. He served as president of the council in 2022.
Godeeker is also owner of Rascal’s Fun Zone in Whiteland.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to represent my neighbors and community again on the ballot in the general election this fall,” Goedeker said in a statement Wednesday. “I appreciate the trust the voters have placed in me.”
Some of Goedeker’s top priorities include helping Whiteland recover from the March 31 tornado, continue promoting the town as a good place to live and work and also fostering more partnerships with the surrounding communities. Additionally, he has been an advocate for starting a conversation to merge the towns of Whiteland and New Whiteland.
No Democrat has filed for the Ward 2 seat, but there is time for candidates to be slated for the Democratic ticket this summer. One Democrat so far will be on the ballot in the fall for Whiteland Town Council. Jaylen Withem is running for one of the two at-large seats against Republican incumbents Richard Hill and Joe Sayler.
