Barbara June (Litton) Weathers

FRANKLIN, IN.

Barbara June (Litton) Weathers, 87 of Franklin, IN passed away Monday, July 3, 2023. She and her late husband, Michael, had lived in seven states before retiring in Franklin, Indiana: Kentucky, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Ohio.

She was born June 5, 1936, in Creekmore, McCreary County, Kentucky to Albert James Litton and Tressie (Hamlin) Litton. She married Michael Douglas Weathers on September 7, 1963, in Louisville, KY; he preceded her in death on July 11, 2017.

She had been an investment representative for US Bank in Blue Springs, MO for about 15 years before retiring in 2004. Barbara and her husband, Mike, then moved to Franklin, Indiana to be closer to their son, Douglas.

Barbara was a member of the Community Church of Christ. As a member, she served as treasurer for her church, as well as Glenwood Hills Campground in Derby, Indiana. Barbara was well-known for making pies and salsa for auction at a charity event to raise money for the campground. Additionally, Barbara constructed gift baskets for college kids to have during finals’ week. She was always willing to serve in any capacity for her church.

Barbara also loved gardening, especially raising tomatoes, cross-stitching, quilting, sewing, and baking pies and cookies, and making salsa. She loved cooking and inviting family and friends over to enjoy a meal.

Besides her love for her family, Barbara’s greatest passion was cheering on the men’s basketball team from University of Kentucky, Wildcats. March Madness was her favorite time of the year. She would fill-out a bracket every year, and watch as many playoff games as possible. Barbara even attended the 2008 Final Four in San Antonio, as well as attending March Madness’ shoot- arounds when they were held in Indianapolis. Barbara traveled to Lexington, KY in 2012 to watch her UK Wildcats compete in the championship game. Despite her husband being a Purdue fan, and her daughter-in-law an Indiana University fan, Barbara remained loyal to her UK Wildcats. She often joked that she would be a UK Wildcats fan until the day she died.

Survivors include her son, Douglas Warren Weathers, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Weathers, of Greenwood, IN, her grandchildren, Kadin Weathers and Destiny Weathers of Greenwood, IN, her sisters, Freda Litton McMillion of Milford, OH and Connie Litton Parker (Danny) of Allardt, TN, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 brother, and 4 sisters, and brother-in-law, Jerry McMillon.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Barbara’s life will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 1PM until 5PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN.
