Heat Advisory in effect through Thursday night

A Heat Advisory will be in effect through Thursday night as temperatures are expected to soar over 90 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis issued a Heat Advisory that will be in effect from noon today to midnight Thursday night for Johnson County. Portions of central, south central, southeast, southwest and west central Indiana are also under the advisory.

Temperatures are expected to be in lower to mid-90s throughout the week. Heat index values of 100 to 108 degrees are expected, the weather service says.

Hot temperatures and high humidity could cause people to suffer from heat-related illnesses, the weather service says.

Meteorologists encourage the public to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. People should also take extra precautions if they work or spend time outside, and if possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the weather service says.

People should also know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, officials say.
