Janet (Hunter) McDuffey, 82 of Franklin, passed away at her residence on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

She was born on June 26, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Luther Hunter and Laura Josephine (Clark) Hunter. Primarily, she was raised by her grandmother, Magdeline Wheeler. She married Jack McDuffey on April 7, 1962. He lovingly survives. She is also survived by children, Michael and Jackie McDuffey (Cassandra); sister, Rachel Hunter-White; brother, John Mark Hunter; grandchildren, Blair McDuffey and Akili McDuffey; niece, Amber (White) Jeter and nephew, Brandon White, along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her parents and sister, Theresa Kay Hunter.

Janet was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Franklin College where she was a member of the Franklin College Alumni Association.

Janet retired from the United Telephone Company as an Office Manager.

She was a faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church where she was involved in all aspects of the church as well as the following community accolades; in 1990, Janet was awarded the Franklin Chamber of Commerce, “Woman of the Year”; and in 1995, she was presented with The American Business Women’s Association, “Woman of the Year”. In 2017, she was honored by Franklin College, “Woman of Distinction”. She was a former mentor and volunteer for S.A.S.O.M. (Student Association in Support of Multiculturalism) at Franklin College. She was a former Director of the Johnson County Homelessness Task Force and former President of Johnson County Senior Services. Janet was a 1998 Franklin Township Trustee Candidate and a longtime voter poll worker. She also was a contributing columnist for the Daily Journal newspaper. She was very passionate towards women who suffered domestic violence. Former Mayor of Franklin, Charles Littleton, said of Mrs. McDuffey, “She is a ball of fire and she ignites everyone she meets to help others.”

Pastor Doug Gray will conduct a Celebration of Janet’s life on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with visitation on Friday, September 1st from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana.
