UPDATE: Greenwood man dead following single-car accident in Whiteland

A Greenwood man died following a single-vehicle accident in Whiteland this afternoon. Jerry L. Stogsdill, 64, of Greenwood, was identified as the driver by the Johnson County Coroner’s Office following family notifications.

Police say Stogsdill left Graham Road for unknown reasons and drove in a straight line toward a tree. Witnesses told police he didn’t slow down or attempt to swerve away from the tree, the accident report compiled by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says.

One person died Wednesday afternoon following a single-vehicle accident into a tree in Whiteland.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 2:47 p.m. to the 4300 block of Graham Road on report of a single vehicle crash into a tree, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

First responders found one person trapped in the vehicle upon arrival. That person was extracted and pronounced dead on the scene. They have not yet been identified by officials.

Investigators at the sheriff’s office are still collecting evidence and gathering information on the crash. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office was notified for a death investigation. Other responding agencies were the Whiteland Police and Fire departments, New Whiteland Police Department, the Bargersville Fire Department and Johnson County Animal Control.

Graham Road between Whiteland Road and Paul Hand Road is closed to traffic for an undetermined amount of time.
