College notebook: Jackson settling in as Hoosiers’ starting QB

Indiana quarterback Tayven Jackson completed 24 of 34 pass attempts for 299 yards and a touchdown in a 21-14 loss to Louisville. A Center Grove graduate, Jackson has thrown for 559 yards through the Hoosiers’ three games.

Center Grove

Indiana State receiver Harrison Stomps was credited with one catch for 14 yards in a 45-7 loss to Ball State.

Junior running back Carson Steele produced 83 yards rushing and a touchdown in only five carries to help UCLA past North Carolina Central, 59-7. He also had two catches for 25 yards.

Indiana Wesleyan punter Nolan Foley averaged 31.3 yards with four attempts in the Wildcats’ 16-15 victory at St. Xavier.

Franklin College freshman receiver Owen Wright made four receptions for 41 yards in the Grizzlies’ 58-43 loss at Trine.

St. Leo junior golfer Alex Heck fired a three-round score of 215 for fifth place individually as the Lions won their own five-team tournament, the Griffin Invitational.

Noah Gillard tied for 41st individually with a three-round total of 219 as Indiana men’s golf placed eighth out of 15 teams at the Chicago Highlands Invitational.

University of Indianapolis cross country runner Gabrielle Harrell placed 55th in a time of 21:06.68 at IU Indy’s Jaguar Invitational.

Wake Forest freshman Ty Garrett placed 34th in the 8k race (25:36.37) at the Covered Bridge Open men’s cross country meet.

Ball State sophomore outside hitter Katie Egenolf had four kills and three digs in a four-set loss to Western Kentucky.

Butler junior Grace Boggess had five kills in the team’s loss to Wright State, and eight kills and two assists in a win over Cincinnati. She added seven kills in the Bulldogs’ Big East opener, a three-set loss to Xavier.

Sophomore defensive specialist Ashley Eck had totals of 27 digs and seven assists as Eckerd volleyball lost road matches against Tampa and St. Leo.

Indiana State’s Jamie Brown had three kills, one assist and a dig in a loss to IU Indianapolis.

Whiteland

Indiana sophomore women’s cross country runner Claire Overfelt finished with a career-best time of 17 minutes, 31.6 seconds as the Hoosiers competed in the John McNichols Invitational.

Taylor redshirt sophomore outside hitter Sarah Scott delivered 12 kills in the team’s loss to Grace College, 10 in a loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene and 13 in a three-set sweep of St. Francis.

Indian Creek

Franklin College men’s golf won the 10-team Earlham Fall Invitational, with sophomore Braxton Christie tying for the third spot individually with scores of 70 and 78.

Anderson freshman Hannah Emenhiser tied for 19th place individually with scores of 95 and 94 as the Ravens took part in the Forest Hills Fall Invitational.

Hanover freshman quarterback Arj Lothe completed a 53-yard touchdown pass in the team’s 67-17 win at Olivet College.

Greenwood

Franklin College junior defensive back Michael Loper finished with five tackles in the team’s 58-43 loss at Trine.

Wabash College linebacker Gavin Ruppert made four tackles and broke up a pass in a 47-21 loss at Butler.

Senior Mallory Watson of Franklin College placed 52nd at the Midway Invitational.

Sophomore defensive specialist Melia Gorrell finished with totals of 41 digs, two assists and two service aces as Wheeling volleyball won all four matches of its own tournament.

Connecticut freshman Mya Ayro had three kills and three digs in the Huskies’ five-set victory over Binghamton, and seven kills and four digs in a loss to Brown.

Franklin

Butler redshirt freshman goalkeeper Addie Marshall made three saves to maintain a clean sheet as the Bulldogs’ women’s soccer team blanked Ball State, 4-0.

Senior tight end Drew Byerly made four catches for 47 yards and a score to help Marian football defeat Olivet Nazarene, 45-14.

UIndy graduate student Andrew Bixler took 27th as men’s cross country participated in the Jaguar Invitational.

Seniors Wyatt McCullough and Eli Cochrane placed 18th and 29th, respectively, to help Franklin College to a runner-up finish at the Midway Invitational.

Sophomore Ava Ray helped UIndy women’s golf finish fourth out of 16 teams at the DBU Classic in Denton, Texas, shooting scores of 72, 71 and 74 to tie for 14th individually.

IU Indianapolis senior volleyball player Brooke Phillips had 10 digs in a four-set defeat of Indiana State. The Jaguars lost in straight sets to Cleveland State, with Phillips making four digs and providing two assists.

Wabash College junior defensive lineman Owen Volk (Greenwood) made four tackles in a 47-21 loss at Butler.

Ball State defensive lineman John Harris (Greenwood) made two tackles in the team’s 45-7 victory over Indiana State.

Senior Grace Hegwood (Greenwood) helped UIndy volleyball win all four matches at the Bobcat Invitational with tournament totals of 31 digs, 24 kills and three service aces.
