Grizzly Cub girls win Mid-State title

Franklin’s girls claimed a fourth consecutive Mid-State Conference title on Saturday, using their depth to top the field at Decatur Central. Lauren Klem placed fourth to lead the Grizzly Cubs but was followed closely by Kathleen Lacy (sixth), Hannah Lindsay (seventh), Ava Ott (10th) and Ainsley Botkin (13th). Whiteland, paced by individual winner Tori Jackson (18:37.51), was second in the team standings, also getting top-10 finishes from Lena Shipp (fifth) and Isabella Fuentes (eighth). Lily Rollings was second individually for Greenwood, who placed fourth as a team.

In the boys race, Greenwood was third behind a third-place individual run from Samuel Grimes and a seventh-place effort from Jake Squier. Franklin was fourth behind Isiah Tunis (10th) and Liam Fennig (11th), while Whiteland landed in sixth place.

Girls volleyball

Lancers runner-up in Greenfield

Edinburgh finished second in the Cougar Challenge at Greenfield-Central on Saturday, posting wins over Waldron, Pike and Warren Central before falling to Batesville in the championship match, 25-20, 25-14. Zoey Sida, Jessica Walsh and MacKenzie Bieker were named to the all-tournament team for the Lancers. Kenna Streeval led the team with totals of 23 kills and 80 digs.

Woodmen overpower Jennings

Greenwood routed Jennings County on Saturday, 6-0. Gavin Armstrong scored twice for the Woodmen, with Emmanuel Jackson, Oren Fiesel, P.J. Branch and Landon Vaziri also finding the net. Goalkeeper Kyrin York kept the clean sheet in the win.

Girls soccer

Cougars shut out Achaeans

Izzy Cameron scored a pair of goals, including an “Olimpico” directly off a corner kick, leading Greenwood Christian to a 5-0 rout of Herron on Saturday. Kylie Clark, Sydney Waldron and Reagan Willis added single tallies for the Cougars, while Clark and Ana Blow shared the shutout in goal.

Trojans get win, tie

Maddie Guilfoy scored three goals and Taylor Townley added two more in Center Grove’s 9-0 thumping of McCutcheon on Saturday. Kylie Carpenter, Ella DeWitt, Mia Marlin and Kylie Smith also scored for the Trojans, with DeWitt adding three assists.

The Trojans also battled St. Joseph’s (Ohio) to a 2-2 draw. Guilfoy and Taylor Baier had the Center Grove goals.

Franklin lost to No. 7 Avon on Saturday, 5-0.

Franklin College

Volleyball splits four at Manchester

Franklin College took two of four matches at the Manchester Invitational over the weekend, beating Alma and the host Spartans but losing to Trine and Concordia Chicago. Freshman McKenzie Schroeder totaled 52 kills in the tournament for the Grizzlies (6-9).

Greenwood grad Joy Maze totaled 55 kills on the weekend for Manchester.

Men’s tennis wins one, drops one

Franklin College fell to Transylvania on Saturday but bounced back with an 8-1 win over Manchester. Dustin Garrison picked up wins in both matches for the Grizzlies (3-2, 1-1 HCAC).

Men’s golf places seventh

Jacob Paine’s 10th-place individual effort (73-72—145) led Franklin College to a seventh-place showing in the IU East Delaware Shootout.
