Services to be held for Sen. Sandlin today, Friday

In celebration of Senator Jack Sandlin’s service to Johnson and Marion counties, Gov. Eric Holcomb is directing flags to be flown at half-staff.

Residents and businesses in Marion and Johnson Counties are asked to lower their flags to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday.

Sandlin unexpectedly passed away on Sept. 20. He is remembered fondly by law enforcement and local officials in both counties. He served communities both as a state senator and was a long-time police officer in Indianapolis and Southport before opening a private investigation firm. He was also a volunteer special deputy for Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Visitation: Today from 3-7 p.m. at the G.H. Hermann Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis.

Visitation: Friday beginning at 9 a.m. until service time at the Rotunda at the Indiana Statehouse, 200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at noon in the Rotunda and North Atrium of the Indiana Statehouse.

The graveside ceremony will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road, Madison. Full military honors will be rendered.

In lieu of flowers, Sandlin’s family requests memorial donations be made in memory of State Senator Jack Sandlin to the Christian Academy of Madison.
