FRANKLIN

Mrs. Betty Lou McDonald King, age 95, of Franklin, Indiana formerly of Jefferson County, Indiana was born January 23, 1928 in Scott County, Indiana to Denver and Nannie (Stockdale)McDonald. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Fannie Stockdale, as her mother died in childbirth with her. Betty graduated from Saluda High School in 1946. On July 3, 1948 she married Donald J. King at the New Prospect Baptist Church near Hanover, Indiana; he survives. Prior to retiring from Mutual Building and Loan in 1983 (now Mutual Bank) as their assistant secretary/treasurer, she worked at various places such as Culligan, Henderson’s Drugs, and Assistant Director at the Girls Club. Upon retirement she continued to enjoy gardening, quilting, baking, reading, and especially her grandchildren and great-children. She loved preparing family dinners! Betty was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Suzanne Circle. She was a previous member of the New Bethel United Methodist Church and New Prospect Baptist Church in Jefferson County, Indiana. Betty passed away peacefully with her husband and her children at her side on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 10:17 a.m. in Franklin, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY

Betty will be missed by her loving husband of 75 years, Donald J. King of Franklin, Indiana; her children, Jerry King and his wife Jane of Greenwood, Indiana; Cindy King of Franklin, Indiana, Melody Jordan and her husband Chuck of Greenfield, Indiana, Susan Smith and her husband Steve of Madison, Indiana; her son in law, Dana DePrez of Franklin, Indiana; her grandchildren, Andy DePrez and his wife, Laura, Josh King, Alaina Green and her husband, Scott, Dr. Brittany Jordan, Sam Smith and his wife, Hailey, and Sarah Smith; her great grandchildren, Callum Green, Declan Green, Romilly Green and Wyatt Smith; her sister, Ann L. Gray of Pekin, Indiana; and her sister in law, Marie King of Rushville, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Denver Lawrence McDonald, died February 29, 2000, her mother, Nannie Burr Stockdale McDonald, died January 24, 1928, her Mother, Beulah Mae Kelley McDonald, died November 19, 2009, her daughter, Rebecca Sue King, died July 10, 1956, her daughter, Shirley June King DePrez, died July 29, 2018, her brother, John William McDonald, died August 19, 2009, her brother, James Orville McDonald, died February 26, 1989, her brother in law, Arlan “Bud” King, died April 10, 2021, her sister in law, Gloria King, died June 22, 2003, her brother in law and her sister in law, Delbert King, died December 21, 1999 and Kate King, died November 17, 1982, her great niece, Kylie Kireta.

FUNERAL CEREMONY

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., by Dr. Jenothy Irvine at the Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Drive in Franklin, Indiana.

VISITATION

Friends may visit Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Drive in Franklin, Indiana.

PROCESSION AND INTERMENT SERVICE

Family and friends will gather on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Morgan &Nay Funeral Centre-Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street in Hanover, Indiana to form the procession to New Prospect Cemetery near Hanover, Indiana.
