Here’s what’s going on with I-69 this week

Most work on the Interstate 69 Finish Line project will take place in Marion County this week.

Last week, construction workers poured the final portion of the deck for the White River Bridge along eastbound Interstate 465, marking the final stage of the demolition and reconstruction of the eastbound bridge. The bridge is 833 feet long and sits 26 feet above the river’s high-water mark. Workers drilled 20 shafts and poured about 2,000 cubic yards of concrete to complete it, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Elsewhere on and near I-465, Belmont Avenue is closed from Banta Road south to the east entrance of Lighthouse Landings Apartments for paving work. Banta Road closed under State Road 37 Sunday. Both closures are expected until mid-to-late October. The eastbound ramp from Mann Road to I-465 will likely be closed through the end of October, and there may be nighttime single-lane closures on I-465 between Kentucky Avenue and U.S. 31 next week for maintenance and structure installation work, INDOT officials say.

Although not part of the I-69 project, a large-scale pavement patching operation that began last week will reduce travel on southbound I-465 to two lanes between 71st Street and Pendleton Pike, INDOT officials say.

In Johnson County, there remains no direct access to or from northbound State Road 37 from Smith Valley Road. Until the Smith Valley Road interchange fully opens later this year, drivers will need to use Bluffdale Road to travel north between Smith Valley Road and County Line Road, INDOT officials say.

Northbound State Road 37 will continue to be limited to a single lane in both directions under the County Road 144 bridge until work on the mainline allows traffic to switch to its proper lanes. That work is expected to be done in early November. During the next two weeks, drivers are asked to exercise caution as paving crews will be active near the County Road 144 bridge area, INDOT officials say.
