Area churches to ‘Pack Away Hunger’ Saturday

Southside area churches will host over a 1,000 volunteers to pack meals for people in need Saturday.

Mount Pleasant Christian Church and its four campuses will host 1,100 volunteers for a day of service called Love Your Neighbor Saturday. Love Your Neighbor is an initiative that provides service opportunities to members and guests of Mount Pleasant and their IMPACT Campuses, according to a news release.

Volunteers will join together at Mount Pleasant Christian Church, IMPACT Old Southside Christian Church, IMPACT Fairfax Christian Church and IMPACT Bethany Christian Church and hear from Pack Away Hunger, their partner in this food packing opportunity. Teams will then head to workstations to work towards the goal of packaging 345,000 meals that to send to their mission partner in Cuba, the news release says.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work together with their friends, families and even children will have the chance to help as they get the chance to learn what serving others looks like. Thirty minutes of training will kick off each shift, and this is the church’s seventh annual food packing event, according to the church.
