Greenwood man charged with rape, residential entry

A Greenwood man is accused of breaking into a neighbor’s apartment and sexually assaulting them.

Jason G. Gosman, 47, is charged with rape, a Level 3 felony, and residential entry/breaking and entering, a Level 6 felony. He was booked into the Johnson County jail on Thursday.

Greenwood police began investigating Gosman in August after a woman reported that she had woken up to Gosman touching her inappropriately. She reportedly began to punch and kick Gosman to get him off her, and after resisting for a period of time, Gosman left without saying anything, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Johnson Circuit Court on Oct. 13.

The woman, a neighbor of Gosman, told police that before the incident she had been at Gosman’s apartment with another woman for dinner. They had been drinking, and after a while, the neighbor left to go home, according to the affidavit.

Later, the two woman allegedly saw Gosman standing on a balcony trying to get into the neighbor’s home. A while later, after everyone had left, the neighbor tried to lock the patio door but it was not working correctly, the affidavit shows.

When the neighbor woke up in the night, Gosman was allegedly performing a sexual act on her without her permission. She began to fight and scream at Gosman, who was holding her down, and telling him to stop, the affidavit shows.

The second woman, who had spent time with both Gosman and the neighbor, said after they returned to his apartment that he could barely walk. Gosman laid on the couch, she told police.

When the woman woke up the next morning, Gosman was laying in a bed. He went to work, but came home early because he said he had twisted his knee, according to the affidavit.

The woman reported that Gosman told her he had gone over to the neighbor’s apartment to look for cigarettes and that the door was left unlocked. He also said that he and the neighbor had started “messing around” after some flirting, but had stopped after a short period of time after the neighbor said it “wasn’t right” and it was time to leave, according to the affidavit.

The woman also told the neighbor that Gosman had reportedly said he was sorry and that he had messed up, the affidavit shows.

The neighbor had injuries on her body. She also had a camera in her living room, which had motion detection but does not record video.

Motion detection history shows motion at the top of the living room stairs at 12:02 a.m. the day of the incident. Motion from the front door was recorded at 1:26 a.m., then at the top of the living room at 1:42 a.m., 2:07 a.m., 2:08 a.m and 2:27 a.m., according to the affidavit.

Detectives left Gosman several voicemails, after which he hired an attorney and declined to speak with investigators, the affidavit says.

An initial hearing has not yet been set.
