Energizer Holdings announces Franklin facility layoffs

Energizer Holdings announced company layoffs Monday from their Franklin packaging operations, a move coupled with severance and job placement assistance.

Approximately 100 jobs have been affected, Franklin Mayor Steve Barnett said.

“I’m hearing that they are still going to have about forty or fifty employed for now,” Barnett said. “They’re looking in the future to employ more there with a different strategy.”

Energizer is a St. Louis-based company that makes batteries and portable lighting products. They moved to the city about three years ago.

Energizer Holdings is not closing their Franklin plant, but are instead are relocating the packaging operations department of their facility to another state. Meanwhile, the Fortune 500 Company’s current strategic plan is to implement the space in a new manner, Barnett said.

This will provide new job opportunities in the future. WorkOne Franklin is already collaborating with Energizer to assist employees affect by these changes, he said.

“Energizer Holdings recently informed colleagues at our Franklin, Indiana, facility that we would cease packaging operations at that location in the first half of 2024. Franklin will continue to serve as the central distribution center for our U.S. battery and lights business.

“As part of this announcement, we also shared information on severance and job placement assistance. Over the next several months, we will continue to focus on ensuring our colleagues have the resources they need,” the statement said.

The company has not yet filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification or WARN notice with the state of Indiana.
