Edinburgh football eliminated by North Decatur

GREENSBURG

Edinburgh’s postseason journey was brought to a halt quickly, as the shorthanded Lancers took a 63-0 loss at North Decatur in Class A sectional semifinal play on Friday night.

The Lancers, who finish the year with a 1-9 record, were beaten by the Chargers 69-0 during the regular season.

“Our kids improved,” Edinburgh coach Tyler DeSpain said. “We controlled the ball … we didn’t have the awful drives that we had the first time we played them.”

With just 17 players available, the Lancers fought the good fight early on, trailing by 14 after the first quarter before North Decatur took control late in the half to build a 44-0 lead by the intermission.

Despite the lopsided final score, DeSpain had plenty of praise for his team after gutting it out all the way to the end.

“I am proud of our kids,” he said.
